Garden Studios Cornwall
Painters, musicians, potters and makers all need different things from a garden studio. An artist may need consistent natural light, while others may need more space for equipment, storage or practical day-to-day use.
At Phase, we design and build customisable garden studios in Cornwall, with layouts, glazing, finishes and other features tailored around how you plan to use the space. The result is a comfortable, purpose-built studio that supports the way you work.
Customisable Garden Studio Design, Built Around Your Work
Phase garden studios are available in a range of set sizes and designs, with the main structure, windows and doors already defined for each model. From there, you can personalise your studio through the internal and external finishes, creating a space that suits how you plan to use it.
A Studio Set Up Around How You Work
Each model provides a carefully designed starting point, which can then be fitted out to suit your needs. Bespoke storage can be incorporated for equipment, materials and other items you need close at hand, helping you make practical use of the available space.
This gives you the benefits of an established Phase design while still creating a studio that works for your day-to-day needs.
Materials and Finishes to Suit Your Style
You can personalise both the inside and outside of your garden studio through a choice of cladding, flooring, paint colours and other finishes. This allows the building to complement your property and garden while creating the look and feel you want inside.
A Studio That Can Adapt with You
A dedicated studio does not necessarily need to serve one purpose forever. The finishes and fit-out can be chosen with flexibility in mind, allowing the space to work as a creative area, home office or general-purpose garden room as your needs change.
Our Garden Studio Range
We offer four core cabin options, each suited to different working styles and outdoor spaces. Every model can be customised to match your specific requirements.
Tǒmder (warmth)
A contemporary home sauna designed to create a private wellness retreat within your garden.
Lowarth (garden)
A compact garden room ideal for one person home working, yoga, reading, studying and quiet creative work.
Sodhva (office)
A larger multi-purpose building suited to spacious home working and living, fitness, entertainment and adaptable family use.
Studhla (studio)
Our largest studio-style cabin designed for entertaining, shared workspaces and premium lifestyle use.
Every cabin can be tailored to your working style, whether you need a single peaceful office for deep focus or a larger studio for team meetings.

The Garden Building Design and Build Process
We keep the process clear from your first conversation through to handover. It begins with a consultation, either at your property or over a call, where you can tell us how you plan to use your garden studio, your preferred style, your garden and your budget.
From there, we’ll help you choose the right garden studio and work through your cladding, flooring, paint colours, internal finishes and other options, with any planning considerations flagged early.
Your cabin is manufactured in our Cornwall workshop, then craned into position and installed on site as part of a turnkey build. Many of our installations use ground screw foundations, which minimise disruption to your garden while providing a strong, reliable base.
Lead times typically run from three to five weeks depending on the chosen size and specification, with final service connections and finishing touches completed on site.
Insulation and Year-Round Comfort
A garden studio only earns its keep if it works in January as well as July. Our cabins are fully insulated and built with durable, weather-resistant materials that withstand Cornwall's coastal climate.
Double glazing throughout ensures each unit stays thermally efficient, secure, and quiet, making it comfortable to work in no matter the weather.
We can also include heating, lighting, and electrical systems tailored to how you plan to use the studio. This ensures your garden room is a comfortable, practical space for year-round use—not just during the warmer months.
Why Choose Phase for Your Garden Studio
Choosing a garden studio is about more than the building itself. It is about finding a team that understands what you need and can create the right space from design through to installation.

Based in Cornwall, our design and build team works with you throughout the entire process. From the initial design conversation to the final installation, you’ll have consistent support. We also provide planning guidance and manage the entire build as a seamless service.

Our garden studios are available in a range of set designs and sizes, which you can personalise through your choice of cladding, flooring, paint colours, internal finishes and bespoke storage. This gives you a proven design with plenty of scope to make the finished studio your own.

Every Phase garden building comes with a 10-year structural warranty, giving you added reassurance that your studio has been designed and built with longevity in mind.
Designed Around You, Made in Cornwall
A garden studio should feel like a permanent, high-quality addition to your property, especially when it will be used regularly for work, hobbies, or creative projects. At Phase, our focus is on quality workmanship, durable materials, and careful attention to detail throughout every build. Each studio is made to an exceptional standard and backed by a 10-year structural guarantee, giving you confidence in a space designed for years of regular use.
Planning Permission for Garden Studios and Garden Buildings Cornwall
Many garden studios fall under Permitted Development Rights, meaning planning permission often isn't required. This depends on the size, height, and position of the building on your plot, along with any specific restrictions on your property, such as listed status or a conservation area.
Building regulations may also apply depending on the size and intended use of the studio, particularly where plumbing is involved.
Note: Because the criteria vary by property, we always recommend checking with your local planning authority before work starts. We can also offer guidance on this as part of your design consultation.
Key permitted development conditions:
Single-storey construction with eaves height under 2.5m
Maximum height of 3m (or 4m for a dual-pitched roof)
Located behind the principal elevation of the main house
Not covering more than 50% of the garden area
Purely incidental use (not primary sleeping accommodation)
